Built in the heart of the old Mellieha village, the 120 sqm pharmacy and perfumery provided an opportunity to equally blend tradition, technology and glamour. The outlet is divided in two areas – the perfumery which is located near the main entrance and the pharmacy. On walking in, custom made units in natural walnut with the traditional carving and brass accessories stand high on both side walls. The adequate choice of lighting enriches the atmosphere with a warm glow with the central chandeliers enhancing a traditional sophisticated space. The units themselves are lit throughout with LED tape that illuminates the products with a glamorous sparkle. In the center of the perfumery section is the bespoke cash point standing out in pure white with a designed floral pattern that symbolizes the old traditional lace which was so popular in small villages. Cut with CNC technology and affixed on a mirrored background, the designed pattern is the first main feature of the outlet. Past the perfumery, the outlet opens up to the pharmacy’s dispensing area. With two structural columns located in this area, which was a challenge to maximize the provision of display area without jeopardizing the traffic flow. This was overcome by using pressed multi layers of mdf sheets curved at different angles and heights so that they combine both columns together and simultaneously provide the main pharmacy display which is the second main feature of the outlet. Whilst warm lighting has been used in this area, LED’s are predominant due to the different activities undertaken by the pharmacist in this area. The chandeliers were eliminated and replaced by a subtle circular design in the ceiling to highlight the feature around the columns.
